For years, Portland-based photographer Geof Teague has created small works of mail art for a network of friends and lovers far and wide, pairing his own photographs with short texts to create open-ended narratives that gesture towards the play between distance and desire. His tumblr, Not So Tough, is an open archive of his photography and portraiture, which the artist has used to categorize moments of “connection, doubt, and the discovery of small joys.” 

For Before It Starts, Teague collaborated with Two Steps Press to emulate his tumblr in physical form— a suite of three double-sided risograph posters drawn from his archives. These images are intended to be “read” in any order, shifting meanings from reading to the next.
